Of all your orchestrated workloads—whether they run on Temporal, Airflow, Step Functions, or something custom—what share would you say Temporal handles today? I’m trying to get a sense of benchmarks, as we’re at 5% Temporal, but think we can get up to 25%. Is that typical, high, low?
It heavily depends on the company. Many companies are 100% Temporal, but older companies have legacy systems that take time and a business case to migrate.
Fair enough. Given Temporal really shines for managing long lived workflows, we are addressing those workflows first. Granted there is some debate as to what constitutes a long-lived workflow. Out of curiosity what is the typical length of workflow that Temporal manages? I imagine you’ll say it’s good for all lengths, but genuinely curious what the median is (minutes? hours? days?).
We don’t have such data collected. I guess that if you look at the duration by workflow type, then the average duration will be in hours. If you look at workflows by volume, the average duration would be in minutes or even seconds, as some low-latency workflows execute at a huge rate.
